Although the vast majority of people have admitted to considering having an emergency fund to fall back on in case of a financial disaster, once their paycheck comes through, they have many duties higher on their list of importance that need paying off. However, one Australian financial advisor has given clear and important reasons why an emergency fund should always be at the top of your priorities .
Canna Campbell explains how to create this fund and how it differs from your other savings accounts. She said, “Your emergency fund should be treated differently to your current account and savings.” Campbell went on to explain that the money put into this account should be decided according to how much you are paid in your job and if you were to lose it, the money you would need to keep yourself out of the minus.
In addition, people need to consider situations where they might have housing damage or a medical emergency arising, resulting them in requiring immediate assistance that insurance will not cover. For this reason, Campbell added that there is no “ ‘one size fits all,’ everyone is different.” She insisted that it“boils down to your situation,

lifestyle, responsibilities and what helps you sleep well at night. \"
As for how to do it, Canna gave instructions too,“Work out how you can start setting money aside in a separate account, and build this separate savings account as quickly as possible, without cutting your living expenses.”
She finally added, “So keep it simple. However, it can be worth temporarily going without a few luxuries in order to find the extra cash flow to put into your emergency fund account. Going without a few items in the short term definitely outweighs the stress as it gives you peace of mind knowing that you have a safety net to protect you.”
24. Which of the following shows what most people do about creating an emergency fund? A. Prevention is better than cure. C. Time and tide waits for no man.
B. Lightning never strikes twice in the same place. D. To say is one thing and to do is just another.

26. What is Canna's opinion on an emergency fund? A. The emergency fund can replace insurance. C. The emergency fund is really very simple. 27. What can be a suitable title for the text? A. What Just Goes at the Very Top of Your Priorities? B. How Does Emergency Fund Obtain the Peace of Mind? C. Emergency Fund for Financial Security and Stability D. Since time immemorial, people have been searching for the fountain of youth. Surprisingly, the dream of human immortality is, according to some scientists, not so far out of reach.
Professor Brian Cox, Google's Ray Kurzweil, and Tesla head Elon Musk all agree on not only the possibility of human immortality but also that it is not too far away. The solution, they say, is something called the “technological singularity”.
The singularity is a combination of humankind with computers, namely uploading the contents of one's brain onto a hard drive. In that way, a person's consciousness can stay alive after a physical body gets worse. This is based on the idea that a human brain is simply a machine, and there is, according to Professor Cox, “no reason at all
B. The emergency fund brings more fun. D. The emergency fund can lessen stress.
why we cannot simulate (模拟) human intelligence,” using a computer.
Although Professor Cox did not say when the singularity would occur, Google's Ray Kurzweil predicts that the singularity will happen as early as 2045. By 2100, he says, human body parts will be replaceable by machine parts. Further, by uploading our brains onto a computer, we will be able to toy with it, and become “able to expand the scope of our intelligence a billion fold. ”
Elon Musk agreed with the asessments of the other scientists, even going so far as saying that the chances that we are not in a computer simulation right now are “one in billions” .
Google is preparing for a future where you can download personalities onto robots. For example, you might be able to download onto your robot a celebrity personality, or of the personality of your deceased grandmother.
The search engine giant filed a patent for this download process recently. So they definitely believe that the singularity is just around the corner. All you have to do is hold on until 2045, and soon you can effectively live in the cloud.
28. What does the underlined word “immortality” in paragraph 1 probably mean? A. Living forever. C. Being perfect.
B. Rebirth after death. D. Continuous improvement.
29. How did the writer illustrate the idea of human immortality in the text? A. By giving examples.
B. By presenting quotations. D. By making a description.
C. By logically reasoning.
30. Which of the following can Elon Musk most probably agree with? A. Computers are much smarter than humankind. B. Computers can never surpass humankind at all. C. Computers and humankind are quite different. D. Computers can be another version of humankind.
31. How can humankind improve by 2100 according to the text? A. Physically and intelligently. C. Psychologically and spiritually.
D
“The research is clear that usable knowledge--that is, learning that can be transferred to new situations- only occurs when individuals are actively making sense of the world” (Science and Engineering for Grades 6-12: Investigation and Design at the Center, p.57)
One of the recent innovations (创新) in science and engineering education is the central focus on having
B. Individually and corporately.
D. Emotionally and materially.
students figure out puzzling phenomena and solving real- world problems. This idea builds on decades of research on how people learn and shifts the focus from“learning about\" a science topic or the engineering design process to “figuring out” how to explain a phenomenon they see or solving a problem. With this focus, students learn ideas and skills because they realize they are missing some knowledge or skill that would allow them to answer their own questions-to satisfy their curiosity.
Students' engagement in their own learning is a strong predictor of their achievement, and teachers often report that it is a challenge to engage students in learning when they are not face to-face in a classroom. However, by centering students' experience on figuring something out that they are genuinely curious about, science and engineering learning can become the most engaging part of a student's day, even in remote learning environments. A phenomenon-and problem-centered focus provides opportunities to connect learning more closely to students' own lives and therefore to make it more relevant to them when they are at home.
If students explore a phenomenon or problem that they see in their own home, neighborhood, or community, they can more easily apply the learning in other aspects of their lives. 32. Why is the quotation put at the beginning of the text? A. To popularize the idea of a book. C. To arouse the readers' interest.
B. To lead in the author's concept. D. To introduce the background.
33. What did science and engineering education use to focus on? A. Learning knowledge.
B. Finding a problem.
C. Explaining a phenomenon. D. Teaching oneself.
34. What should students of science and engineering education be encouraged to do? A. To talk about a science topic or the engineering design process. B. To focus on the knowledge and skill they need for the course. C. To prepare themselves for the ability to solve real problems. D. To engage themselves in real-world phenomena and problems.
35. How will students benefit from the innovation in science and engineering education? A. They will become more curious. C. They will be motivated to learn.
B. They will become the center of the course. D. They will have better learning environment.

The first and most simple step you can take to improve your personality is to give everyone a warm greeting. People will perceive you as friendly and kind if you smile when you see them. Flash your pearly whites and shake
their hands or hug them. 36 Use the appropriate titles, such as Dr., when greeting someone. Show special respect to elders, always referring to them as Mr. or Mrs. /Ms.
When you meet someone, don't go on and on about yourself. 37 Ask them questions about themselves that require more than a “yes” or “no” answer.
Those who have good personalities are often very reliable and trustworthy people. If you tell someone you'll do something, don't make excuses! 38 Always look for little opportunities to help others. See someone struggling to get a book off a high shelf? 39 Or perhaps you're on a bus and a woman with a cane enters. Offer her your seat! Personality is created in part by all of the kindness you show for others, so get started today! Continue doing these things even if they don't come naturally. 40 If you find it hard to adapt any of these new behaviors, then focus on faking it until they become more comfortable for you. A. Step in if you can. B. Get to know them instead! C. Just take some time to think.
D. Politeness conveys respect and thoughtfulness to others. E. Just follow through so they know they can depend on you.
F. It takes time for changes to become habits, or to even become comfortable with new behaviors. G. This will help you become a more positive person and ensure you don't take anything for granted.

A mother and a six year-old boy named Nelson were walking down the shopping mall the week before Christmas when he spotted a large holiday display in the center of the mall. And there in the middle of all of the tinsel, ribbon, and lights was Santa Claus, his elves (小精灵), and a cameraman ready to capture the joyous moment of the boy meeting Santa.
Nelson patiently waited his turn to meet Santa. Before he got to the front of the line, one of the elves whispered to him, “Now you make sure to have your list ready when you get there because Santa is a very busy man.” The little boy replied, “I know exactly what I want.”
Nelson's turn finally came and the little boy eagerly climbed up on Santa's knee. Santa asked Nelson if he had been good the past year, obeyed his parents, and done well in school. Nelson replied, “I have been very good this year, worked hard in school, and done everything my Mommy and Daddy have asked, even though it has been hard at times.”
Then it was time for Santa to ask the big question. “What do you want for Christmas?” Nelson quickly replied,
“I want my Daddy to play ball with me, but Mommy tells me that it is not going to happen. “Why not?” Santa asked. “Do your Dad and Mom live together?” Nelson, without batting an eye whispered, “They used to, but Daddy had to leave.” Santa remarked to Nelson, that maybe someday soon his Daddy would come home . Nelson quickly exclaimed, “Daddy did come home last week.” Santa, now puzzled, inquired, “Then why can't your Daddy play ball with you?” “Santa, you don't understand. My Daddy is a soldier, and he came home in a wooden box.” 注意:

Participating in More Physical Exercise
With our school's 28th Sports Day approaching, I can't help thinking of my sports experience. As my junior high study began, my health was worsening. My father pushed me to run in the morning. I kept running and running until it became habitual. Not only has morning running bettered my health, it has also built up my strong character, thus improving my studies.
Since physical exercise is extremely beneficial, I suggest that our school have more sports space and more sports facilities. Above all, students should be given more sports time.
More physical exercise and we'll enjoy better health, better moods and better academic performance. 第二节
There was nothing left for Santa to say except, “Nelson, I am sure that your Daddy is in Heaven, looking down today, and loves you and your Mom very much, and is very proud of you.” As Nelson scampered down and ran toward his mother, he turned to Santa and said, “If you can, will you tell my Daddy that I love him too, that I miss him, and that I am trying my best to be the man of the house and watch after Mommy.” As Nelson grabbed his mother's hand, he said, “Santa told me that he was sure that Daddy loved us both.”
As his mother glanced up, she noticed that Santa, the elves, and even the cameraman had tears in their eyes. The mother then turned to Nelson, put her arms around him and said, “I know your Dad loved us very much and is watching over us.” Nelson's last words as they continued on their way were, “Maybe someday I will grow up to be just like him.” She turned to him, smiled, and said, “I truly hope so. He was a wonderful husband and Dad.” 简析
注意第二段中的…the money…,…the money 以及第三段中的 no “one size fits all” 等。
26. D。从文章第三段最后一句…what helps you sleep well 以及最后一段的最后一句…outweighs the stress…
A太泛了,B中的 how 不是重点,D中的 reducing a financial disaster 也不是重点。
30. D。注意第五段的最后一句 that the chances that we are not in a computer simulation right now are “one in billions. ”。
他原来以为这样就可以让他们摆脱困境 get…out of the hole,这里的 hole 指所处的困境。
51. C。听到 Nathan 夫妇的情况,不是他们作的报道而是对他们的报道(report of Nathan and his wife)。 52. D。 53. A。
62. while/and,这里表示对照,最好用 while,and 也可接受。

W: It’s easy to say you’re going to do something. It’s a lot harder to actually do it. This is what “talk is cheap” means. Another expression that means the same thing is “action speaks louder than words. ” And that’s English in a Minute for today!(停15秒)

M: Uhm, well, I usually dress up yeah, as I said, every time that I like to. But there’s time I don’t feel like dressing up. I just go out with a T-shirt and jeans.
W: Wow. But when I feel like dressing up it means like when you dress up, you make yourself feel good. M: Yes. So, what kind of clothing do you like dressing up in? Probably your traditional clothing or the western ones?

Pigeons are birds with some extra sense of direction. They were used to carry messages in ancient times. Today in China, a large number of people take the sport of pigeon racing very seriously. Many competitors spend big money to get their hands on top-performing birds.
Recently, a 7-month-old pigeon named “Little Ancestor” placed first in a Chinese Racing Pigeon Association race. The bird beat more than 4,800 other competitors. Little Ancestor completed a trip of about 1,000 kilometers in a record time of 16 hours, 24 minutes and 54 seconds. The race started in Langfang, near the Chinese capital Beijing, and ended in Shanghai.
The win earned Yu, Little Ancestor’s owner, a 57-year-old pigeon lover, $760 in prize money. That amount, however, is far less than the $30,600 he spends on his 500 pigeons each year.
Pigeon racing has a long history in China. It began as a sport enjoyed mainly by very rich people. But the country’s economic development over the years has permitted the sport to spread beyond the wealthy. Membership in the Chinese Pigeon Association has jumped from tens of thousands in the 1980s to about 400,000 today, says the group’s vice president, Huang Jian.
