To be a good teacher, you need some of the talents of a good actor: you must be able to hold attention and interest of your students; you must be a clear speaker, with a good, strong, pleasing voice which fully under your control; you must be able to act out what you are teaching, in order to make its meaning clear.

What a good teacher, and you will see doesn’t sit still before his class; he stands all the time he is teaching; he walks about, using his arms, hands and fingers to help him in his explanations , and his face to express his feelings. Listen to him, and you will hear the loudness, the quality and musical note of his voice always changing according to what he is talking about.

The fact that a good teacher has some of the gifts of a good actor doesn’t mean he will indeed be able to act well on the stage, for there are very important differences between the teacher’s work and an

actor’s. The actor has to speak words he has learnt by heart, he has to repeat exactly the same words each time he plays a certain part, even his movements and the ways in which he uses his voices are usually fixed beforehand. What he has to do is to make all these carefully learnt words seem natural on the stage.

A good teacher works in a quite different way. His audience takes an active part in his play --- they ask and answer questions, they obey orders, and if they don’t understand something, they say so. The teacher

therefore has to suit his act to the needs of his audience, which is hia class. He can’t learn his part in a stage play, because their brains couldn’t keep discipline: they couldn’t keep strictly to what another has written. 56. According to the passage if you want to be a good teacher, you should

_________.

A. have a good voice

B. know how to act on the

stage

C. sit while teaching

D. attract the attention of

you students 57. The underlined word talents in the first paragraph means ___________.

A. methods B. gifts

C. wishes

D. interests

58. In what way is a teacher’s work different from an actor’s? A. The teacher must learn everything by heart.

B. He has to deal with lots of unexpected situations.

C. He has to use more body language and facial expressions. D. He knows how to control his voice better than an actor.

59. The main difference between students in class and audience in the theatre is that _____.

A. students can move around while theatre audience can’t B. students must keep silent while theatre audience needn’t C. students take part in the play while the theatre audience don’t D. students like body language while the theatre audience don’t

60. According to the test, if Tom Hanks, the famous actor, would like to be a good teacher, he may need training in _________. A. how to talk more clearly B. how to learn something by heart

C. how to be more quick-minded D. how to be attractive

B

It’s very different from diet stimulants(刺激物)like Ephedra and Phenfen that are now stopped being used because of dangerous side effects. Hoodia doesn’t stimulate the body at all. Scientists say it fools the brain by making you think you are full, even if you’ve just eaten a little.” 60 MINUTSES journalist Lesley Stahl reports.

Discovered thousands of years ago by Bushmen of Kalahari, Hoodia kept them alive in the bad desert environment by reducing their desires for food and water and making them feel full after eating and drinking only small amounts. Only Hoodia Gordonii grown in the special soil of the Kalahari has this miraculous(奇迹般的)effect and that’s what make the

Hoodia Diet Patch the NO. 1 diet aid in the world. Stahl says it has no side effects --- no funny taste in her mouth, no queasy(恶心的)stomach, and no racing heart. She also isn’t hungry at all, even when she would normally have a pain for hunger around mealtime. And she also has no desire to eat or drink the whole day. “I’d have to say it does work.” Says Stahl.

Hoodia has no side effect on anyone except those people with a pre-existing medical condition and pregnant(怀孕的)women, other than

a reduced desire for food, increased energy and weight loss.

The Hoodia Diet Patch is what you have been waiting for in your whole life. Let the patch do the work for you and watch those pounds off your body.

61. What are Ephedra and Phenfen according to the passage? A. They are poison. B. They are something which helps people

reduce weight. C. They are food.

D. The passage doesn’t tell us.

62. The Hoodia Diet Patch is made from_________.

A. a plant grown in a special soil B. an animal raised on a farm C. a plant growing in the sea D. an animal living in high

mountains

63. With what purpose does the writer write the passage? A. To tell readers how to use the Hoodia Diet Patch.

B. To show that the Hoodia is quite different from diet stimulants. C. To show the Hoodia’s miraculous effects.

D. To introduce the Hoodia to readers and what them to buy it. C

If only I had known that was the last chance I could talk to her. If so, I would have said to her, “Hi, my dearest sister! Do you know how much I love you and how much I feel proud of you?”

Every time when alone, I am always thinking how much happiness she once brought to the people who loved her. I can still remember her smile which was so bright and so beautiful, her voice which was so pleasing to the ear and her love so deep for people!

She was pretty, nice, pure, lively and … Oh, she had many merits

(优点),which always made many other girls envy her. She had also some bad habits. She liked to turn up her radio so loudly that people often felt a bit unbearable about the noise. She carelessly threw her dirty stocking about, which used to make her parents angry. She sometimes let out strange laughter without any reason that often made people frightened. However, if you put her beautiful character on one side of a balance and her bad habits on the other, you would find the bad habits which you think unbearable are so unimportant.

I have no more chance to tell her what I’m thinking about her now, though I wish she would know it in heaven. That day she phoned me, “ Hi, sister! I rang you just because I wanted to tel you that I love you …and. nothing more. Now I have something else to do. Bye!” And the next day came the news about her death. She left me the thing which I would cherish(珍爱)in my mind for ever.

I know that I willl never have any chance to tell my sister that I love her very much. But I think I still have many chances to tell other people that I love them. And I think people may have many chances to tell

the same thing to the people they love. Maybe you will have to leave them or maybe they will leave you for place far away that you will no longer see them again. Why not at this right moment tell them that you love them? Why do they always hesitate to do that? Do it right now, or you will never have the chances!

64. Which of the following sentences shows the main idea of the passage? A. She left me something that I would cherish(珍爱)in my mind for ever.

B. If you really love those people, tell them so, or may have no such chance.

C. I have no more than chance to tell her what I’m thinking about her now, though I wish she would know it in heaven.

D. Every time I’m alone, I am always thinking how much happiness she

one brought to the people who loved her. 65. Why did the writer’s sister die?

A. She failed in an important examination.

B. She loved her sister so much.

C. She suffered a lot from a terrible disease.

D. The writer doesn’t mention it in her article above.

66. What idea does the writer want to tell us by the underlined sentence in Paragraph 3?

A. It doesn’t matter whether she has some bad habits or not if she is a pure and pretty girl.

B. People think her bad habits less important if they find her character so beautiful.

C. She was a very good girl with noble character, but she still had some bad habits.

D. It’s a pity for such a good girl to have such bad habits. 67. Which of the following sentence exactly show what the writer’s sister was like?

D. She liked to stay alone therefore she had few friends.

I’m a senior high student. Now many students use mobile phones .They think it’s a fashion to use mobile phones .Besides ,it’s very convenient to get in touch with their families and friends by using mobile phones. But some students break the rules in class. They bring their mobile phones to the classroom and we often hear the ring of mobile phones in class. Some of them even waste precious time in class typing short messages on the mobile phones .

In my opinion ,the classroom is a place for students to gain knowledge .Therefore quietness is badly needed for us to learn our lessons .Those with mobile phones shouldn’t take mobile phones to the classroom . We are supposed to concentrate on our studies. The school should make a rule to forbid the students to use mobile phones in the classroom.

Yours sincerely
